About
I’m a Southern Belle, living, cooking and trying to avoid Hill staffers in the epicenter of political influence. I was warned when I moved to DC that the people here aren’t friendly. Imagine my surprise when I found that to be utterly false. I have made some great friends in this city and can truly say I have found my home.
While I am still a champion of eating fresh, local and in season foods, over the last few months, my first love of baking has taken a more dominant stage in my life. So, with an apron covered in flour and a sweaty brow, I’m dipping my toe back into the world of baking!
My heart has always been in baking but I’ve never had the nerve to make it a career. Inspired by some amazing bakers in DC, I’ve decided to try and up my baking game. And I’m inviting you along for all the learning, laughing, crying and shrieks of joy (or of pain) that I’m sure this adventure will bring. I have books, I have inspiration and I have a helluva lot of sugar!
Feel free to contact me to share recipes, ideas, tips, events and information or to just point out that I’m rambling yet again!
I love food…I love DC…I write about both…enough said.

I just wanted to say hello. I am a midwestern transplant to DC (lived here for six years now) and totally agree with you. People are actually very nice here– aside from the occasional angry commuter scolding tourists on Metro escalators!
I love all the creative recipes here, and look forward to reading more.
Wow! Your blog is gorgeous. Thank goodness for Facebook or I wouldn’t have found you! Let’s catch up for real sometime soon — Neely
Just had to chime in and say that I also live in DC and I DO NOT like that stereotype. There are so many nice people in DC!
Anyway, I love the site. Your photos are really looking good. That natural light is nice huh!
Cheers,
Nick

I love your site, your content, your pictures… I seriously cannot get enough of your site.
I don’t see an RSS link, maybe you should add one?
Cheers to your success,

@ Eric – Thank you very much for the compliments! I’m I don’t have an RSS feed but you can subscribe to my blog! The link is under “Keep Up With My Adventures”. I will work on adding an RSS feed though! Thanks for the tip!
Hey there girlie! Okay, I’m on my second summer of living off the earth. And I thought I would check you out to see what you may suggest regarding: Ichiban eggplant, zucchini and squash. I love how prolific the courgettes are! I’ve also have bell, jalapeno, and sweet peppers; grape and roma tomatoes; okra and plenty of herbs. Anywho…I’m book marking cause I need a good credible source for recipes, homie

@ Erika – When I first read this, I thought you meant living off the Earth as in living on another planet. But I’m sooo glad to hear your backyard gardening bug is still alive and well! I’ll have to email you to get more details!
You know, I do a lot of aspirational and vicarious living where buying and cooking food are concerned, but the recipes here and your food finding tales might just get me up and off my ass. Thanks, Lady!
