Outside the Kitchen Shenanigans

Soooo, I have been fairly busy this last week.  We got our Christmas tree on Sunday from Little Scrub Ridge Farm at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market, which meant I had to break out the decorating chops.  I may have went a little crazy at Target buying up Christmas decorations (I may or may not have a problem…we’ll look into it after the holidays).

During the week, there was Thrifty DC Cook’s birthday to toast at Masa 14 (which has a great $4 happy hour menu from 5-7 pm Monday through Friday).

I tested out roasting potatoes with duck fat I got from the new Cork Market (shout out to Bourbon Steak DC for also giving me local duck fat resources).  I also tried my hand at spatchcocking a chicken to fabulous results! Okay, those last two weren’t outside the kitchen, but they were still shenanigans.

And I stalked a pink van around DC in hopes of getting my hands on the amazing cupcakes from Curbside Cupcakes (it’s a van that sells cupcakes people…brilliant business plan).

Then the Boy and I got tickets to see Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind at the Woolly Mammoth theater (which turned out to be all manners of fun and high jinx).

For a woman who prefers jammie time to cocktail hour, this is a lot to pack into one week.  And with the holiday season in full swing, it’s just the start of a very full (but hopefully very fun) calendar of activities.  But somewhere in all of this, I did manage to squeeze in a screening of the new Meryl Streep movie “It’s Complicated” with my friend Mazzie.  I gushed so much about the movie after I saw it, The Boy offered up a spot on his blog for me to review it.  Head on over if you want to get a peek at my first ever movie review.  And I promise I’ll be back next week with yummy treats.  Or I’ll just drool at Modern Domestic’s treats instead…
