What says Fall better than meandering through a lovely orchard with friends, picking apples and taking goofy pictures? Absolutely nothing, I thought. So on Sunday, the Boy and I met up with our friends Geoff and Carlea (and they’re conversion van kidnap cute newborn baby girl Isabel) at Stribling Orchard to gather our own bounty of apples. The orchard is only an hour’s drive from DC and the whole process was fairly easy. Well, it became easier once Carlea pointed out the different variety of apple trees were color coded and coincided with information given to us on the orchard map. But once the map was demystified and the mysteries of the apple picker tool thingie were explained to me, we all became lean, mean apple picking machines. We picked a LOT of apples and were shocked to learn our share only cost $23 (and that included a big pumpkin!). Of course, this now means I have an assload of apples…so prepare for the glut of apple related goodies in 3…2…1. To find an orchard in the DC area that’s open for pick-your-own fun, check out this thread on Chowhound! In the meantime, here’s a little snippet of our apple picking fun in pictures!
