It’s not easy setting up a household, especially when you have to consult with someone else. The Boy and I are just now getting around to putting up pictures and buying furniture pieces for the house (like the lovely Peruvian antique entryway table we got for the foyer). And I have just gotten my kitchen organized the way I want. But before I get back to the business of food blogging, I thought I’d show you where I’m cooking now. That and I just want to make you beyotches jealous!

In my old apartment, I had to haul out Big Red whenever I wanted to use her. If any of you own a Kitchen Aid Professional Series 6 mixer, you know it’s not the lightest kitchen appliance in the world. That bitch is heavy and it sucked ass to have to drag it up to the kitchen counter all the time. But now I have this fancy new thing called counter space…lots and lots of counter space. And this nifty new counter space allows me to keep Big Red in one place all the time. And next to her is my awesome retro professional blender The Boy gave me as a gift for my birthday. I’m going for a bit of a red theme in the kitchen…because I’m anal that way.

While the new stove isn’t a gas range, it is a smooth cooktop, with an even, radiant heat spreading throughout the burners. The oven itself is also pretty big and sturdy, allowing me to bake more than ever before. Notice my lovely new red kettle? It whistles! It’s the little things in life that make me happy really.

And this is the jewel of my new kitchen…and truthfully the main reason why I took this apartment. Honestly, the rest of the apartment could have been a crack den and I still would have taken it because of this island. Not only is it a huge amount of counter space for me to roll out dough, it also has cabinets and drawers galore! Ignore the shadowy figure in the background…it’s just the Boy worshipping at the altar of his new 42 inch flat screen.

No your eyes aren’t deceiving you…that cabinet shelf PULLS OUT! There are three cabinets in my new kitchen with this heavenly feature…I am pleased.

I will spare you the details of how I used to store my pot lids and instead show you how I do it now. This is called cabinet space boys and girls C-A-B-I-N-E-T-S-P-A-C-E.

I have a window in my kitchen now…a WINDOW! It lets in this thing called natural light…something I’m still getting used to in the new place. As with a lot of older buildings, this window has a pretty deep and wide sill, giving me even more space for storage. A perfect place for our ever expanding collection of loose teas…yes, we’re an old British couple.

Did I mention the cabinet space? I did? Well, here’s a visual aid. Notice how high the cabinets go? This is why God invented tall people…tall people and step stools (for when tall people aren’t around).

And this is one of the many fruits of my labor in this lovely new space…but more on that later.
That’s a great kitchen!
I love the new space! It really is a lot more space than you had previously. I can’t wait to see it in person!!
This looks fantastic- enjoy, I know you will!!
What a lovely new space! I’m so happy for you.
This is a FABULOUS space!!! Cant wait to see it!
I am having Kitchenaid space issues myself. I regularly have “I shouldn’t be doing this” moments when trying to take down my Kitchenaid from the ledge above the fridge. That sucker is heavy! Nice new kitchen space.
