My Dear Diva

by Shaw Girl on July 8, 2008

It is with an unbelievably heavy heart that I write this post.  On Monday, my beloved Squeaker (known on here as The Diva) was put to sleep to ease the suffering she was going through.  She was not just my cat, but my absolute buddy through thick and thin.  She was there for every single moment of my adult life and helped me through some very low points.  I am at a loss for words that can adequately express what she meant to me but a very dear friend of mine sent me an email after learning of Diva’s passing.  Hopefully he won’t mind that I shared his words with you:

“Sadness and mourning allow us time to reflect on what has passed in our lives. Although I did not know your cat, I know you. If you’re anything like me, animals help maintain our sense of balance. Anyone who has loved their pet knows how important they are to keep a measure of sanity in a sometimes insane world. For a very long time, Squeaker gave you a sense of certainty and the amazing gift of unqualified love, that much I know. Now that that certainty is gone, you might feel off-balance. You will persevere.”

“Our love for our animals is painful in the end, that much is true. I know when I lost my dogs and my cat, I felt as if a piece of me had died too. For the longest time I couldn’t think of them without crying. It hurts, they are family. When no one else is there, they are there. Nothing is more valuable than the happiness they give. I’m sure Squeaker was no exception. The pain may seem unbearable now, but in the future you may temper that sadness with the shear volume of love your cat gave you. The happiness you two experienced will never be replaced. You can call yourself lucky that you had love without question. Nothing will ever replace your friend, but the memories of love, companionship, and happiness will live on in her place.”

I am so very sorry. :-( Losing a pet is heart-wrenching.

This is the third cat post I have read tonight. No wonder I am so weepy.

My heart goes out to you.

Diva is beautiful and I’m so sorry for your loss. But indeed, the words of your friend ring true — “you will persevere”. I don’t know why, but our pets, I’m very sure have personalities of their own and we come to love them so much, and get utterly attached to them that it makes separation extremely difficult. But you’ve got these beautiful pictures and the memories.

Stay strong, girl :)

i feel for you… my dog’s been in doggy-heaven for 2 months now but there are still nights I find myself crying remembering those last few days she had with us…i also can’t find myself getting a new pet since I always think no one can take the place of our dog. maybe it will change someday.

again, im sorry for your loss.

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. :(

I feel somewhat silly “tagging” you now, but I’ve “tagged” you to write your own meme. Come on over to see the rules.

I’m so sorry sweetheart. I feel your pain, I do. I lost my kitty on (of all days) Valentine’s Day. I was on my way to visit her in the hospital for visiting hours and she passed on…I never got to say goodbye to her. It’s been 3 years now…I am like you, in saying she was a huge part of my life for 17 years.
You will get to see her again and that reunion will be just wonderful–remember that ok?

I’m sorry for the loss of Diva. I have a cat, Ciro, and I can’t imagine my life without him. A cat is 5 kg. of happyness, and you have remember this. My hert goes out to you.

It’s never easy to get over the loss of a love, feline or otherwise. My cat of 11 years died three years ago in August after a freak incident made him sick and he hid the symptoms until it was too late — sneaky boy. I still cry about it sometimes. My heart goes out to you.

I’m sorry for your loss. I love pets and I understand you very well. I also have a cat Lizica she is 13 years old and is my best friend, a member of our family.
Take care.
